Stray Paws Santorini, a legal volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing and protecting stray animals for the past seven years, is launching a fundraising campaign to purchase land and establish a permanent shelter.

Since its founding by Myrto and Vasilis, Stray Paws Santorini has provided care, medical attention, spaying/neutering, and safety to hundreds of animals that were abandoned, abused, or lacked support. Our operations began in a space provided by the municipality, and later we moved to larger facilities in Pyrgos, Santorini. However, the lease has ended, and with the imminent sale of the property—alongside severe damage caused by earthquakes and extreme weather—the continuation of our presence there has become impossible.

Given the absence of financial support from the municipality or the state, finding a permanent solution has become critical. After extensive efforts, we have identified a 4.5-acre plot in Megalochori, Santorini, which could serve as the first truly stable and safe home for our shelter.

Purchasing this land will allow us to create a space where:

• Stray animals can be temporarily housed until they find the loving families they deserve,

• Abandoned or neglected animals can live with dignity and protection,

• Rescue operations, medical care, spaying/neutering, and responsible adoptions can continue without interruption.

The cost of the land is €70,000. While a significant amount for a small volunteer organization, it represents the foundation for creating a permanent shelter that the island desperately needs.
